About FA Bio

FA Bio COMPANY STORY

Previously FungiAlert, FA Bio was founded in 2015 with the mission of developing tools to support regenerative agriculture and revolutionise disease management practices. Our SporSenZ technology was designed for the early detection of soil pathogens during the founders PhD studies at Imperial College London.

After a few years of using our SporSenZ for soil microbial analyses and early alert to soil disease risks, our company mission pivoted in 2021 when we started to use our innovative technology for the discovery of unique microbes for biocontrol and biostimulants products for growers.

our mission

Today, as FA Bio, our mission is to lead a paradigm shift in the discovery of microbial-based products to help minimise agriculture’s environmental impact whilst sustainably increasing crop productivity.

FA Bio is passionate about delivering sustainable farming solutions for agricultural challenges by discovering unique soil microbes that harnesses nature’s response to biotic and abiotic stresses in a cost-effective and efficient way.

Since 2016, the team is based at Rothamsted Research Centre, a world-leading research centre that focuses on agricultural science.

OUR TEAM

FA Bio has a passionate team that include expert scientists who foster an inclusive and collaborative culture to use their skills to discover microbial bioproducts that can replace agrochemicals and reduce the environmental impact of farming.

cOMPANY VALUES & CULTURE

As a diverse team of over 15 nationalities, FA Bio understands how an inclusive society plays a crucial role in a sustainable, healthy, and happy environment.

We believe that embracing people from different backgrounds, strengthens relationships and promotes creativity, respect and problem-solving within a team, ensuring we work together to achieve our vision of protecting natural ecosystems.

Our team of expert scientists and professionals all work together for that same vision and hold core beliefs that align with FA Bio’s company values:

R&D Laboratory
Technician

Contact

Tanaka is a skilled laboratory technician with extensive experience culturing fungi and performing field plant assessments. At FA Bio, Tanaka will be supporting the laboratory teams with data collection, development and assessment of bioproducts, evaluating their efficacy and running field trials.

Tanaka has 5 years’ experience in microbiology and biotechnology from the Kutsaga Tobacco Research Board (TRB), which carries out tobacco research in Zimbabwe. At the TRB, Tanaka was responsible for developing innovative agro-based products and providing sustainable tobacco production. In his role as a Laboratory Assistant, Tanaka gained experience preparing media for culturing bacteria and fungi, isolating disease cultures, producing biocontrol agents and collaborating with his team members to achieve target results for research trials.

Tanaka has a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Bindura University of Science Education in Zimbabwe.

Immaculate Mueni
Mwangangi, PhD

Junior Research Scientist

Contact

Immaculate is an experienced research scientist specialising in various aspects of plant science, including cell and molecular biology, conventional and modern plant breeding techniques, host-pathogen interactions, plant physiology and nutrition, and the efficacy of biocontrol agents.

After completing her PhD in Agricultural, Health, and Environmental Science, Immaculate worked as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the Natural Resources Institute (UK), focusing on the optimisation of in vitro regeneration of the host-less parasitic weed Striga, studying nutrient treatments on Striga and investigating its interaction with the pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum to identify specific pathogenicity chromosomes and assess its potential as a biocontrol agent. Prior to this, she served as a Post-Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Greenwich (UK), where she actively led and collaborated on research projects while tutoring, mentoring, and supervising post-graduate students.

Immaculate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from Kenyatta University (Kenya), a Master of Science degree in Molecular Plant Sciences from the University of Bath (UK), and a PhD in Agricultural, Health, and Environmental Science focusing on enhancing tolerance and resistance in sorghum against the parasitic weed Striga through improved nutrition in sub-Saharan Africa from the University of Greenwich (UK). Throughout her academic journey, Immaculate has received international awards, including the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, and Research England’s ‘Expanding Research Excellence’ award, which supported her studies.
