Our Solutions

OUR TECHNOLOGY

Our proprietary technology, SporSenZ has been commercialised since 2018 as a soil microbial analysis tool for growers and has been deployed around the world in all types of crops including broad acreage, speciality crops and hydroponics.

After winning a series of entrepreneurial programmes at Imperial College with SporSenZ in 2015, we patented our pioneering technology and focused on utilising it to increase agricultural productivity and sustainability, with the aim of finding innovative ways to solve the challenges farmers are facing.

FA Bio partners with growers to discover new superior microbes using our SporSenZ tool. In the field, the SporSenZ captures active and dominant microbes from agricultural soils that are in crop roots, including pathogens and beneficial microbes, and facilitates an understanding of the microbial community to help drive key agronomy decisions and improve agricultural productivity.

The SporSenZ technology mimics the composition of root compounds to harness the response of soil microbes in their natural environment, which is not possible using other sampling methods. This makes it a powerful tool for studying soil biodiversity and discovering unique microbial solutions.

Our ultimate objective is to help decarbonise crop production and be a step-change in regenerative agriculture by discovering bioproducts that minimise the environmental impact of farming whilst maximising yields.

Microbial Discovery Platform

The FA Bio Microbial Discovery Platform revolutionises the discovery of superior microbial active ingredients for bioproducts that can replace chemical inputs.

Our strategy is to utilise our patented technology to discover a library of naturally occurring crop-specific soil microbes. From this microbial library we identify the active ingredients that can be developed into game-changing biocontrol, biostimulant and biofertiliser products.

We collect data and microbial isolates from agricultural soils around the world and use DNA sequencing methods, bioinformatic, AI and ML algorithms, biochemical and microbial bioassays and glasshouse studies to evaluate the activity of our microbes as active ingredients for bioproducts. We continuously discover new microbial candidates for disease and pest control, plant growth promotion and biofertiliser activities that can reduce agrochemical inputs.

FA Bio Microbial Discovery Platform

HOW IT WORKS

Our SporSenZ technology captures active and dominant microbes directly from the field, enabling us to isolate them 3 to 4 times faster than existing discovery routes and access new microbial isolates that have never been cultured.

It isolates pathogens responsible for diseases and biocontrol microbial candidates that are natural competitors of the diseases, as well as beneficial microbes that interact with the crop roots and can facilitate nutrient cycling and promote plant growth.

Implementing our SporSenZ in targeted sampling campaigns allows us to discover superior, hard-to-access, and field-adapted microbes for targeted traits. This results in the collection of microbes with excellent field activity potential that are naturally adapted to interact with target crops and climates.

These collections are the foundation for our unique Microbial Discovery Platform to discover candidates with superior disease control, plant growth promotion and biofertiliser activities that can be used to develop microbial bioproducts and provide an alternative to chemical crop inputs, revolutionising sustainable agriculture.

To deliver our vision and ultimately help growers produce more with less, we collaborate with strategic partners who can manufacture our microbial active ingredients in a final product and help reach the farmers.

We are transforming the discovery of game-changing microbial bioproducts with the vision to minimise agriculture’s environmental impact, restore soil health and sustainably increasing crop yields using innovative technology.
