Sustainability
THE CHALLENGE
Since the Green Revolution which began in the 1940s, crop yields have massively increased but at a cost to the global environment. A significant portion of our agricultural land still relies on chemical inputs. This heavy use of chemicals poses both environmental and health risks, making the transition to more sustainable solutions increasingly vital.
As the global population increases, significant demand is being placed on food supplies. In addition to this, altering weather patterns driven by climate change are significantly affecting crop yields and farming practices in various ways.
There is growing recognition of the importance of technological innovation in addressing global food security challenges and promoting sustainable agriculture to help create more resilient farming systems.
One of the most critical issues in our food system is improving soil health. Healthy soil is essential for growing high-quality crops but can also help to mitigate climate change by reducing atmospheric CO2 levels and break down pollutants to protect water quality and reduce the impact of agricultural runoff on surrounding ecosystems.
With a number of key drivers for the use of bioproducts in agriculture, including protecting the environment and improving soil health, FA Bio is developing the solutions that can restore the biodiversity of degraded soils and replace agrochemical inputs.
By acting now to transform regenerative agriculture, we can make the agricultural sector more sustainable, ensure food security, protect the environment and promote economic resilience for future generations.
IMPACT METRICS
FA Bio is developing biofertilisers and biopesticides which will have ZERO carbon emissions.
FA Bio’s products could be used in 2.5% (Approx. 16 million acres) of cultivated land used for arable crops in America and Europe by 2028 and 12.7% (Approx. 82 million acres) by 2032.
If biofertilisers displace 20% of their chemical counterparts and biopesticides 70%, FA Bio’s products could save 739,909,000kg of CO2 equivalent emissions from the agriculture sector by 2032.
Sustainable
Bioproducts
Sustainable bioproducts are produced and used in ways that minimise environmental impact and promote sustainability.
Derived from natural organisms, they are used to protect crops from pests and diseases and promote plant growth with minimal environmental impact compared to their synthetic counterparts.
FA Bio utilise fungal microorganisms in the discovery and development of its agricultural bioproducts. Fungal microorganisms are diverse and versatile, with unique characteristics that enable them to be applied to a wide range of activities, making them a vital part of the natural world and human life.
Fungi microbes and plants are intimate partners in every life process and are essential for soil health and productivity. Bioproducts will play a crucial role in advancing sustainable agriculture by enhancing productivity, reducing environmental impact and promoting a circular economy. Offering an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional agricultural inputs, bioproducts contribute to resource efficiency and help mitigate climate change.
FA Bio’s innovative technology facilitates an understanding of the microbial community in agricultural soils and the discovery of new improved bioproducts that can help drive key agronomy decisions, increase agricultural productivity and improve soil health.

THE
OPPORTUNITY
The market opportunity for sustainable bioproducts in agriculture is substantial and growing rapidly, driven by increasing demand for environmentally friendly practices, regulatory support and advancements in agricultural technology (agritech).
Advancements in agritech can help improve land management techniques and reduce the dependency on chemical inputs, increasing both the efficiency and sustainability of food production.
As farmers seek alternatives to synthetic fertilisers to improve their soil health and reduce environmental impact, the global biofertilisers market is expanding and is expected to continue to grow over the next few years.
Agritech has the potential to revolutionise agriculture on a global scale by improving efficiency, productivity and sustainability, making it a resilient industry capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century and ensuring food security for a growing global population.
