Bastian is responsible for developing novel formulations for our fungal based bioproduct agents and ensuring that our microbial innovations are translated into effective, stable and field-ready products. Working closely with the fermentation team, he supports the development pipeline from early-stage testing through to product scale-up and deployment. Bastian brings extensive experience in microbiology and the development of microbial products for environmental applications.
Before joining FA Bio, Bastian was a Senior Environmental Microbiologist at Thrive Science Ltd in the UK, leading projects on microbial formulations for bioremediation and wastewater treatment and managing a team of scientists and engineers. He has also worked as a Bioremediation Engineer with VICO Oil and Gas and as a Technical Engineer for Lautan Luas Ltd in Indonesia, where he designed, tested and applied microbial solutions for wastewater and soil remediation at industrial scale.
Bastian holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Sheffield, where he studied bacterial biosensors for monitoring soil remediation as part of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship. He also earned a Master of Science in Environmental and Energy Engineering from Sheffield and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the Institute Technology of Bandung, Indonesia.
