As part of its initiative to grow and nurture an inclusive and diverse team, FA Bio’s ‘Culture Champion’ award recognises and celebrates those who make significant contributions to the team by living the company values. Each quarter, the team votes those individuals worthy of the award, recognising their contributions to the company culture and innovation.
The latest recipient of FA Bio’s ‘Culture Champion’ award is Wallace Rafael de Souza. As Microbial Library Manager, Wallace plays a pivotal role in ensuring lab operations run smoothly while also spearheading improvements that enhance efficiency, collaboration, and sustainability within the company.
Since joining FA Bio three years ago as a microbiologist, Wallace has demonstrated remarkable adaptability, supporting various teams and embracing the startup’s dynamic nature. Over the past year, he has been instrumental in lab management, working alongside previous Culture Champion winner Ana Dionisio to develop and implement new systems that streamline processes and promote teamwork.

Wallace has had a keen interest in optimising lab operations, and in 2024, he took on the challenge of leading a year-long lab management project. His work included creating and implementing new systems, engaging the team in their use and continuously refining processes based on feedback. He also organised and led monthly lab meetings, providing a platform for open discussions and collaborative problem-solving. A key outcome of Wallace’s project was a comprehensive year-end report summarising lab management insights which have since guided colleagues to make more conscious decisions regarding materials, processes, and cost efficiency, reinforcing FA Bio’s mission to minimise environmental impact.
Wallace is pleased to be part of the FA Bio team, driving forward innovative microbial solutions that harness the power of nature to transform agriculture. FA Bio is committed to pioneering next-generation microbial bioproducts that enhance soil health, improve crop resilience and support regenerative farming practices. Wallace’s work in lab management and process improvement aligns closely with this mission, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability, scientific excellence and collaboration.
Wallace Rafael de Souza said: “Being part of a team that values sustainability, collaboration and continuous improvement is truly motivating. My passion for the environment and responsible resource management has been a driving force behind my work, and I take pride in incorporating sustainability into lab operations. I appreciate the trust and support of my colleagues, and I am proud to contribute to initiatives that drive meaningful change. FA Bio has provided an environment where I can grow, innovate and make a tangible impact every day, not only in the lab but also in promoting a culture of inclusivity and awareness.”
Natália Franco Taketani, Head of Scientific Operations at FA Bio, comments: “Wallace’s dedication to improving lab management and fostering collaboration has been truly inspiring. His ability to bring people together, implement effective systems and drive sustainability initiatives reflects FA Bio’s core values. We are incredibly proud to have Wallace as part of our team and to recognise his contributions with this well-deserved award.”
